ELEVATORS

Castings for elevators

FUNOSA is a ductile iron foundry based in Barcelona. We manufacture the three critical parts of the elevator traction unit—motor housings, sheaves, and gearbox housings—in ductile and grey iron, with integrated machining and our own engineering and quality departments. We work with elevator manufacturers, lifting component manufacturers, and machining companies that need a reliable European supplier with strong technical capabilities and the agility to respond quickly.

What we manufacture for elevators

Elevator motor housings

Structural housings for traction motors in ductile iron. High mechanical strength, complex geometry, and integrated machining to OEM specifications. We manufacture for geared and gearless applications. We work directly with elevator manufacturers and with the machining companies that integrate the housing into the traction assembly.

Elevator sheaves

Traction and deflection sheaves in ductile or grey iron as required. Balancing and tolerances to the customer drawing. Surface-finish control and precision machining in serial production. We supply specialist sheave manufacturers and manufacturers of complete traction machines (geared and gearless traction machines).

Elevator gearbox housings

Machined ductile iron housings for gear reducers in the lifting sector. Complex geometries, tight tolerances, and flexible manufacturing tailored to each project, with in-house engineering from the design phase. We manufacture for geared traction machine manufacturers with production in Europe.

Who we work with

Manufacturers that integrate cast parts into their traction units and need a European supplier with audited certifications, in-house engineering, and stable supply.

Companies specializing in geared and gearless traction machines, sheaves, gear reducers, and motors that are looking for a foundry partner with an in-house engineering department capable of getting involved from the drawing stage. Especially relevant for manufacturers with production in Europe running medium series with high technical requirements.

Industrial partners that require castings with full traceability, agile technical response, and the capacity for recurring supply. We regularly work with machining companies that supply OEMs in the lifting sector, both directly and through their purchasing networks.

Why work with FUNOSA for the elevator sector

We reduce logistics risks, shorten lead times, and make direct technical coordination easier. Our plant is in Barcelona with our own engineering and quality departments—no intermediaries in technical decision-making. Compared with foundries outside Europe, we offer traceability, proximity, and a genuine response.

ISO 9001 · ISO 14001 · IATF 16949 · ECOVADIS Bronze. IATF 16949 is the automotive industry quality standard—applied to the lifting sector.

We specialize in production runs where technical agility, service, and a direct relationship create more value than a purely per-tonne price.

Our engineering department gets involved from the drawing review. We anticipate manufacturability issues, propose improvements, and reduce industrialization lead times.

We define the most suitable solution based on geometry, volume, and specifications.

From first-sample validation to serial production, with quality follow-up and ongoing technical support.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We work with both profiles and often with both simultaneously: we supply directly to the elevator manufacturer and also to their machining companies that integrate our parts into the traction assembly. Our engineering department adapts to the level of technical detail required by each counterpart.

Ductile iron (nodular iron): EN-GJS-400, EN-GJS-500, EN-GJS-600—the most in demand for critical traction parts due to its combination of mechanical strength and machinability. Grey iron: EN-GJL-200, EN-GJL-250—commonly used for sheaves and housings with lower dynamic requirements.
